That picture just made me really sad.... I loved s/mileage. Everything from the indies to Uchouten Love was amazing and the girls had perfect chemistry. I can't help but just miss the old group. I really don't care for this s/mileage.

While I'm with you people who loved 4nin S/mileage (Saki and Yuuka being my two favorites, no less), by now I prefer current S/mileage. 2012 was just way too good for them music-wise, and Kanana is the best thing to ever happen to my S/mileage fandom. Even late last year Samui ne finally eclipsed Shortcut, my former favorite single from them. Love current S/mileage

I honestly didn't get into S/mileage much until 2nd gen joined .

I really want to love s/mileage, specially since I shouldn't care about OGs and stuff (I follow MM since 2001, and Aichan is my all time fave, but I like current MM the best), but that old chemistry of 1st gen just seems irreplaceable, they were so fun together (and ironically, that chemistry is what made management look for auditions... they wanted rivalry) and it just felt right.

Also, I find Yuukarin a unique girl, which had almost everything, her looks unmatched, the same as her cuteness (praised by many H!P members), a fan favorite, she was a decent singer, a great dancer, and she was really fun in TV. OFC many western fans didn't care about her (the undergod syndrome ), but she was the face of S/mileage....

Sakichi was much less popular, but her singing was very good, she had a great smile, and was having lots of fun before the grads were announced.

Now we see barely anything of them on TV, and when they were shown, they were boring. I'm really sorry to say this, but it's the truth, 1st gen was hillarious on TV
The new gen 's charm points (kanana's gorilla stuff, takechan's boyish, tv freak persona, Meimi's crazyness, Rina's... ? no idea ) just aren't interesting yet. They have to find something to cling on that gets into fans.

It's been more than a year already, and they're just not there. Also, you can see that Ayacho and Kanyon aren't really glad about the new members, they're not bonding, and they're not even trying harder, because only meimi is getting some center love. 2nd gen isn't competition... yet.

There's still hope, and I'd really want a 3rd gen soon. That'd stir things up and 2nd gen would feel the pressure. They really need that.

I love this S/mileage. Almost all of them are great performers. They have so much energy -- I always love watching them. Singing-wise, Meimi, Akari, and Rina are all decent-to-very-good (Meimi, in particular, is as good as or better than anybody in the 9th/10th generations), and Kana is better than the worst of MM. Akari is a fantastic dancer. And, with the exception of Rina, I find them all pretty amusing (especially Akari and Kana). They are definitely a little weak in the looks department, but I think Meimi and Akari are adorable. And, of course, Kanon (my favorite of the first generation members by far) is still here, and she's amazing in pretty much every area. The original S/mileage was awesome, and to lose half of the group like that -- it was just awful (especially Yuuka, who is just irreplaceable, imo). But this new S/mileage is awesome to me, too. There's a lot of talent and personality in this group, and I will support them forever!!!

I agree with this. But I also think it's partly management to blame (maybe?). Like Ayaka said after their fall tour last year, she felt that S/mileage became closer to each other and I can see a tour doing this. Give them another tour and I bet we'll see them get even closer. Now this won't fix all of it, and maybe - who knows - they're not even popular enough anymore to have tours. But more challenges like that would be nice.

I agree with this. It's not that they need a new member for the sake of getting a new member, but they do need the pressure that would come from it. As it is, 2nd gen has simply settled for being 2nd gen and they're always together -- even doing a blog together -- and that's all they'll ever do. Throw a girl or two in as 3rd gen and I bet they would immediately feel the need to step up in their game.

Having said that, I really like S/mileage, though the original 4 were beyond amazing. I love Akari and lately Rina is really getting to me for who knows what reason. Meimi, I would like so much more if she'd just drop that over-the-top-spazz thing she does all the time. She can be really cool and fun without having to act like she's high.
I guess Kana is just really.. the weakest one for me. Not outstanding in the looks department, singing nor dancing and her personality is just... I don't know. Not interesting. Makes you wonder why I'm starting to warm up to Rina of course, but I have no idea how to explain that.

If they do have a gen 3 S/Mileage will it be a 1-nin "acey-ace in your face loli" type or a four-nin "we're young and fresh so our senpai's will have to work harder" type?
