^ I was watching OhaSta yesterday and it occurred to me that a whole generation of Japanese kids will probably grow up thinking of her as basically the only person they recognize by name in a group of present or former H!P members.

Maybe to her it wasn't so much "graduating" as leaving them behind.

I don't think her graduation was based on her looks. I think it had something to do with her lack of ability to dance and sing in synchronization and harmony with the rest of the group. (Of course, there should be plenty of fanon theories for Koharu's graduation on the fanon of canon (cheap plug) thread.)

Eh, I don't think it had anything to do with her performance skills. Koharu was at the time by far one of the most charismatic members. Not the best at singing nor dancing, but she was a great performer.
It was probably a backstage thing that we will never really find out the truth about.

Nah, I think, seeing as Tsunku saw her as his replacement for Maki (the whole miracle, lucky 7 thing..) (and that he was, to an extent, right, seeing her popularity), he had the intention to graduate her "fast" from the start. Maki was only in MM for like ... 3 years? 2? something like that. Koharu got longer, but for a long while I knew she was the next out because Tsunku was definitely want to make her a soloist while her popularity was still good.

And that's what they said, no, that he wanted to make her a soloist but she declined.

Anyway, it all makes sense to me.

I'm guessing she knew she wasn't a great singer or dancer, except as Kirarin or a Kirarin-like character, so she did everyone a favor and got out when the time was right. She is better as a spokesperson, model, and children's entertainer, and she's mature enough to play to her strengths. (Go back and watch the DVD magazines from her time; it's a bit spooky how seriously she took her work. She's a lot like Airi in that.)
