Last movie you watched

^ Wow, I haven't thought about that movie for a while. I saw it when I was flying home from Germany in July 1984, when it was still relatively new. The Barbra Streisand movie that I really need to see again, though, is Peter Bogdanovich's What's Up, Doc? (1972), a screwball comedy featuring one of the greatest chase scenes in cinema history (in San Francisco, of course).

The movie I saw most recently is I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Robert Zemeckis's 1978 comedy about a group of New Jersey teenagers trying to get into CBS Studio 50 to see the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. I hadn't seen it since the '90s.

Dinner in America (2020) — IMDb's summary: "An on-the-lam punk rocker and a young woman obsessed with his band unexpectedly fall in love and go on an epic journey together through America's decaying Midwestern suburbs." If you're a fan of movies like Repo Man, Heathers, Ghost World and God Bless America (as I am), you'll enjoy this twisted punk-rock rom-com.

Suicide Forest Village (樹海村) (2021) — Creepy J-Horror directed by Shimizu Takashi (Ringu, Ju-on). Our girl Duu is in a supporting role as newlywed Akutsu Miyū.

Eighteen and Anxious (1957) — A cautionary tale about a girl who gets pregnant, featuring several familiar faces from '60s TV: William Campbell (Trelane and Koloth from Star Trek), Jim Backus (Mr. Howell from Gilligan's Island), Jackie Coogan (Uncle Fester from The Addams Family), and Yvonne "Batgirl" Craig in her motion picture debut.

For the past 30 years or so, I've been using the list of 265 "Favorite Films" in Re/Search #10: Incredibly Strange Films as a checklist of must-see movies.

With this one finally checked off, I have only six more to go.

I watched Princess Mononoke (もののけ姫) for the first time ever last night. I really enjoyed it! Even though the ending made me cry.

^ I want to cry too. I remember when it first came out in Japan, it was huge. I was excited about it to come here, but time past and I forgot all about it until now. Thanks.

Princess Mononoke (1997)
Japanese anime blockbuster movie in 1997. It was OK. I was disappointed but then I’m 20 years late in viewing it. The theme song was good though. My expectations were set way too high based on the ravings of a Libtard.

Most recently I saw Air Doll (空気人形) (2009) again, since I just bought the new Dekanalog Blu-ray. Bae Doona (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Linda Linda Linda, The Host) plays an inflatable sex doll who comes to life in Kore-eda Hirokazu's meditation on human existence. キ・レ・イ。

I recently saw a Japanese film, Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes (ドロステのはてで僕ら, 2020), which is a kind of screwball comedy involving a very silly time travel related conceit. Despite the ridiculousness of the plot and the obviously shoestring budget, it's well-constructed, witty, and at 70 minutes, the story flies. The whole thing is claimed to be shot in one continuous take. I highly recommend it. It got a 99% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes as well. It's on Amazon Prime, but also free with ads on Tubi.
