Maachan is a lot like Airi, and she is popular for the same reasons that Airi is popular.

What would you say are the reasons?

I would definitely agree that both are charismatic and naturally talented in ways that other (even H!P) typical idols aren't but I would say their charisma manifests in different ways.

Airi comes across as much goofier and at her core ~feminine~ and generally well liked (we could thank Ray for that).

Masaki on the other hand is like an enigma that's hard to look away from and for better or worse to some it probably comes across as endearing and to others annoying.

They both have strong, unconventional personalities that make them stand out from the other, more conventional idols around them. (Relatively speaking, of course, since H!P idols in general are unconventional compared to idols from other companies.) And they both have the almost instinctive ability to engage the viewer in a way that feels intensely personal even when it obviously is not. As Zunu and I discussed once long ago (but I cannot find it now), Airi gave a master class in this with the video for "Hatsukoi Cider"…

The question of "goofy" versus "enigmatic" is a minor detail. (I called Maachan "sociopathic" as recently as two years ago, but I'll concede that she's matured somewhat since then.)

That concert was epic. So many good performances.

Oda looked, and sounded, like she's an already established mega-star on a triumphant tour. Sayuki has a great voice and clearly puts so much work into it, but it must gall her that she inevitably strains at the top of her register while Oda just effortlessly belts out those high notes like she's singing middle C.

If you had asked me who would sing Airi's "wasurenaide" line from "So la ti do nee nee," Rinapuu is probably the last person in H!P I would've thought of, but she did a good job. Really, everyone did.

In terms of non-singing aspects of their performance, Funakki's group did the best I think, they just tore full-bore into it. I don't usually care for Murota's vibe but it was tailor-made for that routine. Special individual credit to Momona for taking her much older mates to the cleaners, and to Maopin for projecting casual cool into that corny song/dance.

Oh one more thing. Shiori Nishida - I feel like she's missing her true calling as the center in one of those "cute girl has funny adventures in school" comic j-doramas.

story : You dream of seeing an idol of your favorite group, and you became concert staff member at a concert hall to see them. Today as a newcomer, it is your first day on the job for Hello! Project. Rehearsals go smoothy, then you hear a voice backstage say "I'm sorry, it seems that there is no sound in my microphone!". Microphones suddenly turn off and staff tells you to get another one. Staff are frantic. You got to hurry and find another microphone for your favorite member but you are not familiar with the hall yet. Will you be able to give the singer her the microphone in time of her performance?

Participate in a "Real escape room game" with 2 teams for a time limit of about 10 minutes (participation by 1 person is also possible). We will have you enter the narrow room of the in-house special booth, and it will be a game to play with puzzle solving. Hello pro members appear as guests during the game. (How do they appear? Please look forward to it ♪)

Each H!P group and a guest H!P group will have different game modes scheduled together.
