Even now I already really like most of the new members, pretty sure I'd grow to like the 12ki too.
But to like any of them even more than I've adored Sayu for almost 10 years? Yeah, little chance of that... and it's not just me being overly sentimental or anything, it's also a matter of time and circumstances. It'd take years for them to even have a chance.

Kago was always my favorite, after she left I flip flopped with liking other members but it wasn't till Sakura came along that I found someone to fully put my support behind once again. So it's obvious my #1 Oshi is in fact Tsunku and I use the girls as an extention of that.

But that aside, if I were Sayumi and I put 11 years into a group which I love more than anything and all these people bailed the ship solely because of me, while flattered, I would in fact be sad. She put a lot of work and time into promoting the new members and would feel all that work was for nothing if people left. But that happens with every graduation.

But I think graduations/auditions are like hydras. You cut off one and multiple heads appear to take over.

End of ramble, I'll go to work now.

I think Sayu wasn't just born to be a member of Morning Musume. She was born to be a leader of the group.

Had she graduated without having become the leader, we wouldn't be fawning all over her now.

I think it is time for her to go because as we saw in Music Station, the camera was mostly on her and the other girls really wouldn't try to take it away from her for politeness' sake and because they all worship her.

With Sayu off the camera and out of the group and with how small the gap is between 9th and 10th gen and how Sakura is being pushed to the forefront too, they can more or less compete over screen time without the elephant in the room inadvertently catching everyone's attention as she is the most well-know and has the most to converse about with show hosts and stuff. It's like how Morning Musume was at first, just friendlier.
