@AyuHikaru: You may be correct in principle, but making a fuss about it here is just going to annoy the rest of us. We have given you no cause.

In fact, in my experience, charges of pedophilia are often a matter of psychological projection; the person making the charge is the only one who is thinking it, but they're so stuck in their own head that they assume everyone else must be thinking it, too.

Furthermore, controlling language does not control thought or action, despite what the Newspeak Committee says about it.

So step back, take a breath, and remember who you're talking to.

I understand it may come across as aggressive, but I'll always think calling a young girl a Loli is gross. Period. Call it projecting all you want.

I'm pretty open about a lot of things in this fandom (though I did rage when Haruka got a photobook before anyone "old enough") I draw the line at calling them Loli's. They aren't Loli's, they are little girls. Those two words are very different. As someone who knows a child abuse survivor, I take this fairly seriously. Loli's is a fetish term, I'd prefer no one fetishize real little girls. I'm not out to control anyone's thoughts, but speech is a power thing. Especially with the bad rep Idol fandom's already have. Do we need to add to that by using a known Fetishizing word?

You may disagree but I had to say something. I think I did the right thing making it known I don't think it's okay. It may not change anything, but I had to say something

AyuHikaru wrote:To RPB: Loli is mostly used as a way, on the internet, to describe anime girls, which in a way is almost worst, because your dehumanizing the real girl if you call her "Loli". If you look on the internet 95% of all lolicons will rage that Loli isn't real and it's anime and it's a fantasy. But we're calling HARUKA, A REAL LIFE GIRL, a Loli. Pretty hypocritical.

I'm aware of that, that's why I stayed far far away from run of the mill anime forums, blogs or god forbid 4chan. Let whatever they use the term for stay there then, and please don't paint the rest of us here with the same brush because like celedam said above, we gave you no cause for that.
Besides, I think what amped said that started all this could easily fall under the use I described in my earlier post... that he's just using the term as a shorthand for their youthful looks.

If not, well... have at it. In the meantime I shall continue to spam pics with every post on this subject in an attempt to get back on topic :)

They're idols. They're already fetishized. That's how the industry works. If you haven't figured that out by now, that's your problem, and getting hung up on one particular word just trivializes the situation even more. If you really believed what you're saying, you wouldn't be here supporting that industry.

Sure, I'm the first to say "words mean things," but by your own description, this particular word has three or four different meanings depending on context. And that's even before it gets put through the wringer of Internet slang.

You're fighting the wrong battle, on the wrong battlefield.

Where is this picture from? *-*

And, who is the girl on the left? We're all assuming that it is Maachan but it also looks like it could be Kanyon.

Also, if it is Masato, then calling them a loli-combi is pretty cray. The pairing already has at least two fan names (MaDuu, the top two).

Actually...... I have to say that you're partially wrong :/

Those AREN'T little girls. Scientifically, a 12-13 yeras old girl isn't little anymore - she is perfectly capable of living, surviving, reproducing or whatever by HER OWN, and as a general statement, a girl at thisage has the total ability to understand the environment she's surrounded by and to process the information she taks from it for the upcoming future. (I think for the boys it would be at age 13-14, a little later).

The "legal age" or whatever it's called, which comes at age 18 or 21 depending on the country, it's just another law imposed by society for X reason. Probably because by experience trough th times people have saw that youngers need to be more mature to do this thing or that thing or this one other thing....

But I'll repeat it: these girls aren't little anymore and they have all agreed with what are they doing.

NOW, by that, even by the meaning of "sexually attractive" or "sexually suggestive", they can be called lolis.
I DON'T LIKE it either but that's how thing are and as Celedam said, it's all fetishized, that's how industry works.

Anyway and after all, it's a thing that depends of each one. Me for example, I wouldn't call them lolis at all, because it's not that I have any sexual thoughts about them. There's a big difference between that last and to just like somebody, liking it's something that can't be avoided, it comes by it's own.

Now, a cute MaiMai

I'm not sure where your from because I know that people have different views on this depending on the country and culture, but certainly where I come from people have very strong views against what you are saying. 12-13 is still a child, practically a baby in US thought. I work with kids and in my opinion I don't think any girl in this age range is that mature to fully be aware of the decisions she is making or what is going on in the world around her. Being able to create a child (physical maturity) doesn't equate to mental and emotional maturity. I don't think girls are seen as becoming sexually mature until maybe 16 here. And you can disagree, but I can see why anyone coming from my background or one similar would have very very strong views against this mindset, the term Loli and viewing children in a sexual manner in any form.

Yes the industry does fetishize it, maybe not outright, but that doesn't mean that everyone has to agree that it's ok. And what I think is trying to be said here is that by using the terms we are perpetuating the idea that the young girls are sexual objects or we are just attributing sexuality to them and that makes alot of people uncomfortable. Even if its other people doing it. I for one am uncomfortable with it, but it seems like that's just my and a few others opinion.

Also I'm a girl so I know I'm not projecting my own sexual feelings. It's pretty obvious with how the way the term gets thrown around on places that are not jplop that the term holds a certain sexual connotation in people's consciousness. Especially when lolicon porn exists. Perhaps it's a protective motherly feeling that comes into play with me and other girls.
