I actually prefer the SayuRena combi.

They're actually pretty without make-up, and acknowledge their differences. AiGaki came off as so exaggerated and fake to me.
Like they were playing off a gimmick, and Gaki was also much more closer to Kamei. Seemed so forced.

They seem forced? you must be joking Gakikame might look close infront of camera, but you cant deny AiGaki when it off screen aka listen to what they mention about their relationship and those intense staring and late night date you need not to be close infront of camera just to show the world how close are both of you

Why are we spoilering this?

GakiKame were better partners, but TakaGaki were better friends.

Just as SayuReina are better partners, but SayuEri are better friends.

You need to have opposites to have interesting on-stage or on-screen dynamics. (Or in a word, friction.) Real-life friends typically aren't opposites. In fact, real-life friends develop their own references and shorthand, so that most of what they say ends up being rather uninteresting to everyone else around them.
