I'll be honest-- in 4th grade when we were supposed to learn the states, my teacher gave up halfway through.
So yeah, my grasp on what's going on past... Well, California's neighbors and the southernmost states (because I drove through them several times to get to visit my relatives in Alabama), is spotty at best.

I was a strange kid (quelle surprise), and I was obsessed with maps and history, especially U.S. history, at a very young age. I could locate and spell every state before I even started kindergarten.
