Ambitious! Yashinteki de Ii Jan

It's a super catchy and fun song.
"Jump! Jump! Take off shiyou ze ."
"Boys and Girls be Ambitious...."

Did people really hate this song when it was released?! :O

I remember "Ambitious!" because that's when I became a fan. In fact, my very first coherent memory of MM as MM is watching Konno and Ogawa, in their "Ambitious!" costumes, discussing their upcoming graduations with Tamori-san on Music Station. I'd had the "Best" albums for a couple years before that, but I'd bought them for the novelty factor of "ridiculously huge idol group" without really knowing who they were.

Anyhow, what I remember about "Ambitious!" is: Farah Fawcett feathered hair, which was ugly even in the '80s, plus a weirdly off-putting self-affirmation video that featured the line "We are ambitious!" and showed the girls riding in a convertible in a parade.

The limited edition version came with 10 covers, and Reina's was on top (which I guess is complainable, but they had to choose someone). The regular edition cover was much more "fair":


Ambitious was one of the first (if not the first) that I shared with my Japanese-speaking friend. I watched the PV for the first time in her company. I remember her thinking the title was weird, and that the outfits weren't all that awesome. Though she's also not into idols.

Reina was the dance center (first since Shabondama) for this song though, makes sense to have put hers on top.

Having that said. More than the outfit, I absolutely hate the covers. A lot.

BE HAPPY Koi no yajirobee. terrible PV but the song has grown on me
