He did it because people won't stop arguing about it. We have to settle on something, and "Angelum" works both as a pronunciation (for non-French speakers) of ANGERME and as a romanization of アンジェルム. If it stops just one newcomer from saying "'ANGERME'? What's that?" and restarting the whole argument, then it's the right thing to do.

It's アンジュルム, not アンジェルム.
And by "non-French speakers" maybe you just meant English speakers, since Angelum in Spanish would sound like アンヘルム.

Its アンジュルム in Japanese
Angerme in French
and Angelum in English
