I think I would like the Cabbage song more if two other people sang it. I never cared for Dawa's voice and Riho is just... Riho. It's like a rebirth of Ecomoni after they hit puberty, vocally that is.
So I guess I'm trying to say, as much as I like both songs, as songs go, Cabbage wins, but as far as performances go, Forefore wins.

OK -- that was the first time I've listened to both songs -- and I actually like them both! (I've been really,
really unenthusiastic about most of the songwriting/arrangement/production coming out of H!P for a long time, so that's a major change.)
I agree about Cabbage Hakusho -- and it's by far as pretty a song about cabbag as you're likely to hear.

I don't mind the extreme Kpop-ness of Forest for Butt-Wiggling -- H!P has always borrowed openly from a lot of sources, and Tsunku etc. usually do interesting things with their borrowings. I actually think it's time for H!P to absorb some major Kpop influence and turn it into something that suits their style (far better than being influenced by AKB's songwriting and arrangements, which are basically just lazy for the most part).

Haruna's look certainly doesn't help mask her awkwardness, but i definitely don't think it's the majority of her problem. you can be super slim and not have dance moves not look awkward at all (think Yossie, or Gaki and Reina at their slimmest), though their appearance even without dancing can be a little awkward.
there's just some people, usually the ones with longer limbs (proportional to their size), that don't have the looseness and to make their moves look smooth (it has to do with not being able to isolate parts of your body, so instead of doing a hip swish they end up moving their abdomen and legs quite a bit too.. a lot of guys have this). other people don't have good rhythm. other people have both of these problems, and that's where Haruna (and Kananan) fall. but even if they don't have these things naturally, they can learn them over time (as we're already seeing).
Forefore is pretty borrowed, but i felt the same way about Cabbage Hakusho from the first listen. though for the life of me i can't think what song it reminds me of.. i'm thinking some old school jpop.
however, i don't mind that they're both kind of heavily inspired on some source or style. they're still done well, and they somehow bizarrely fit the Satoyama thing (which is better than going too cheesy/obvious, like old H!P would). actually, i think the Satoyama relation is why i don't mind that both of them might be classified as "easy listening" and lack a build into a bigger/stronger song. they're meant to make you want think of nature and the simple life.

I've been thinking this a while but I'll say it now;
Miya is the closest thing we ever got to a 2nd Maki.

I love Forefore. Cabbage is okay, but upbeat songs very often win me over.

The best part about the Forefore performance is that it reminds us how H!P concerts are always live, and how when that's not the case it's all obvious and awkward

I can see that:
Both favor light brunette hair.
Both have younger fan girls in H!P.
Both achieved success outside of their main groups in three person groups where they were not the oldest member.
Both have been rumored to date one or more JE boys.
Unfortunately, I didn't really follow the early part of Miyabi's career so I do not know if she ever went on a variety show and had to pretend to be interested while the three times older than her host pretended to hit on her.

Since I started listening to Morning Musume after Maki had gone solo (and I never did care much for most of her solo material), I remember her mostly as the girl who was funny in a sort of sweet and understated way on H!M -- which was nice, but I like Miyabi's horsey face and snotty expression more.

I listened to Cabbage twice when the performance video was first uploaded, and I have not listened to it since. Snoozefest. Not that it's a bad song (because that, it is not), it's just.. well, boring.
Glad I finally got to see DIY's full performance. I really, really enjoy the dance! It would be awesome to learn. Le sexy.

I like how they show different sides of the whole satoyama thing.
Cabbage Hakusho is about how they hated cabbage but found it tasty when their grandmother made it in the countryside, how they want to be like her someday, etc.
But Fore Fore is like "Oooh! Countryside! Let's go hiking! It's fun! Let's go together! I'll teach you how to do outdoor stuff!"
