Protip: arteriosclerosis (i.e., thickening or hardening of the arteries) is a terrible way to go. You gradually lose control of — or simply lose — parts of your body due to decreased blood circulation. Life becomes increasingly difficult and miserable as the parts become withered or infected. And yes, this includes the brain.
"Stroke" really just means damage. You often hear about the big, dramatic strokes due to bleeding. You don't often hear about the more minor strokes due to lack of blood. But they're still strokes.
So if you are at risk for arteriosclerosis due to smoking, diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol (it's not just diet, it's also genetic), whatever, you need to get that shit under control.
