For me, it's basically this. I've always felt that she's attractive in a very boring (western?) catalog way.

I don't know. I looked at some of those articles that you linked a while back, and my opinions on female facial beauty aren't really any different from the typical man's. I like high cheekbones, big eyes, baby-like faces, etc, etc.

For an idol, imo, the quality of beauty is very secondary to the quality of looking "approachable".

I find both Maimi and Yossi to be super attractive, for different reasons. I don't even see Yossi as being that masculine, with her big doe eyes and round face. Her personality is masculine, but not her features.

Maimi is just gorgeous, like you'd see her pass by and go "Wow, that's one pretty girl." Regardless of what country she's in, she'd be seen as pretty. Because of this, she can be seen as boring. There's nothing flawed about her, so she's just "pretty".

She doesn't have dyed hair, any fancy hairstyle, really stylish clothes, or much makeup on ever, so she looks like a normal pretty girl rather than a celebrity.

^Ditto Sayu. I never really liked the flashy types i guess XD

Zunu wrote:Just looking at her in still pics, sometimes Yossi is hot - but the way she talks and carries herself is so unfeminine to me that I can't find her attractive. I'm certainly not her target audience though, so it doesn't matter much.

It's basically like this for me too, and to compare in current H!P this is also how i feel about Maasa and lately Kudou. Kudou's still dang cute right now but i have a nagging feeling i'm only gonna be able to find her "okay" in a few years. This has nothing to do with loliness or whatever btw, just that i still can find boyish girls cute and i'm usually not attracted to unfeminine women in general
I'd be very happy to eat my shoe if 5 years later she proved me wrong though xD

I'm all about ultra feminine girls. ESPECIALLY since I went to a damn inner city, vocational, high school in the mid to late 90's and had to deal with manly girls wearing baggy jeans and t-shirts during the hormonal rage portion of a young man's life but I'll be damned if I said I wouldn't wreck the hell out of Maasa and Yoshizawa. They both have nice faces in different ways. I'm just such a face person when it comes to attractiveness. Especially for Asian women since a lot them are rail thin and curveless.

Midwestern suburbs in the late '80s and early '90s = oversized sweat shirts and Jersey mall hair.

I can't even look at my yearbook. :shudder:

Most of all H!Pers have very pretty faces imho, it's one of those Tsunku magic thing, just that how attractive you find them + their personality, bearings etc varies from person to person
^x2and no one said they wouldn't btw :fear:

i find Maimi really really gorgeous (i'm a girl), but Yossy only pretty sometimes. and in a "she looks good despite herself" way LOL. i guess cuz the type of pictures i like are serene/dramatic, and i don't believe Yossy in those scenarios. XD imo her looks are friendly to people who aren't used to asian faces, i've noticed non-fans when asked to pick out one of the girls from a photo, point to Yossy.

quoting here because it crosses over with this conversation..
Zunu wrote:I remember that concert performance. Also, I guess ymmv but I definitely thought she was an exceptionally pretty girl even back then. I thought she kind of stood out from the pack right away in Shiroi Tokyo. I mean obviously she's filled out and become a beautiful young woman but in her fundamentals I don't think she looks all that different from before. Unlike, say, Airi who IMO has totally transformed.

agreed with all of this. she stood out as one of the pretty ones from the bunch (along with Risako), but the levels of beauty she achieved i don't think any of us would have predicted. her face is just beautiful.. although i do think her hair has something to do with it, because i didn't find her that pretty at all when she cut it. and it's not that i don't like short hair, because other girls like Mano and Miyabi rock the short hair.

and yes to the Airi thing, i've said this to a couple people but to me Airi is almost unrecognizable to her kid self.. especially for people that, unlike us, aren't barraged with old and new photos of them all the time. even from back when i got into kids (early 2006?) the only way i was able to recognize Airi in old H!P kids photos was out of a process of elimination. XD and then she went and transformed AGAIN (she's like an evolving Pokemon). she's much more recognizable looking back to her 2nd form, but that still imo places her into the top 5 (at least, maybe top 3) of "most changed" during their tenure in H!P.
