I bought those illegal chips as a gag gift for my boss. He’s kindly fixing my grandmother clock and thought he deserved a good Christmas present this year.

I’m currently floating somewhere in the Caribbean. Somewhere near Cubs and Haiti. On my way the ABC islands. (All three but not in that order.) I’m spending my Thanksgiving floating in a boat.

I missed Tomoko’s graduation but I hopefully will be able to watch it sometime when I get back to the US.

My phone service kicked me off of my iMessage so all I have to survive by is crappy free ship wifi unless I want to pay up for the good wifi.

Happy Thanksgiving! This is my first Thanksgiving in DC because I went back to Chicago the last two years (and during pre-vaccine Covid, oops). Found a group of people to cook Thanksgiving food with here, so I’m excited because I love Thanksgiving food.

Also booked my vacation for next month to Charleston and Savannah.

Happy Thanksgiving, folks! After being alone at home last year, I'm going back to my usual Thanksgiving tradition of dinner with some friends in Berkeley. I'm bringing the corn and my spicy peach ginger glazed carrots, as well as some dolmas for the appetizer table. The last is a nod to my Armenian relatives, who always have yalanchi sarma on the meze table at holiday gatherings.

There's turkey parts in the oven, and I need to take them out pretty soon. Holidays are always an improvisation for my family (weird dietary restrictions, random sleeping hours, etc.), but for the most part, we manage.

I stuck a couple of small pre-sliced hams in one slow cooker, put a homemade hashbrown casserole in another, and I'm about to roast some fresh green beans in the oven. I'll also be making a glaze to go over the hams.

Last night, I made a fresh apple cake with some Jonathan apples, and made a butter pecan glaze earlier that went on top of the cake. The cake itself was very labor intensive for me, but I tried a small piece and it tastes great, so at least my effort was worth it.

We're not exactly "celebrating" this year, but I hope everyone has a nice day!

I’m back on land. It’s an island but still land. The crew is doing a safety drill this morning so that was fun to watch.

I was getting tea at the time and a passenger said it’s good to know if the ship goes down, we’ll still have coffee served to us. Chances of that happening are slim but it was a bit funny to see fire fighters and people in life jackets running around while I was shipping my tea.

I’m on my way home and holy crap do I miss my wifi. I’m so starved for H!P music. I’m glad I made the good judgment call and put some C-ute music on my phone so I had something!

They closed the port of Bonaire right after we went due to the new strain of Covid that’s come out. So I was pretty lucky on that end to get to see the island before that happened. As of today no one on our ship has gotten Covid so that’s also good.

It looks like Omicron hit the ground running - the first confirmed case in the L. A. area just popped up, and I'd guess that it's had at least a week to spread undetected. But if all it does is give people a mild case with minimal complications, maybe that's not so bad.

Will the Omega variant wipe out the human race, or at least turn them into mutant zombie creatures? Time will tell.

And if there are post-Omega variants, what names will the surviving mutant zombies use to refer to them?
Maybe they can start using the non-Greek Coptic letters: "Well, it looks like the Cheema variant is replacing the Janja variant..."
Or they could go straight to Glagolitic.
