^ Annoyed about Super Girls?

My feeling about them is that they are MUCH more of a threat to AKB (or really SKE) than they are to Morning Musume.

They're basically younger, prettier, and better coordinated versions of the Senbatsu. Rather than have 200 members of whom a few can sing, a few can dance, there's an oshimen for every possible fetish and fancy, they do it the old fashioned way, concentrating on a few girls (well 11-12) who really have their shit together. It sounds like I'm describing Reborn MM, but SG's style is totally different. They're more into uniforms than into costumes, their music is the exact type of anthemic super-pop that AKB releases, with songs that sound on the first listen as though you've already heard them before, and nothing like Sgt. Tsunku's Funky-Discotheque Club Band. If they blow up, it's going to be at the expense of the Akimoto empire, siphoning off fans who are just exhausted with having to follow so so so many different over-exposed groups and subgroups, constantly being pointlessly scrambled because of Akimoto's restless control freak attitude. Oh, for the past forever you've been a Team A fan? Well too bad, I'm moving a bunch of them to K, a bunch to B, and moving in some younguns you don't give a crap about. Oh you like Akicha? Guess what bitchez, I'm shipping off your girl to Jakarta, suck it~! Hell, you look at rebroadcasts of old AKB clips and it's like half the girls' faces are blurred out because they couldn't keep the faith in one way or another. The dude's a mad genius, I'll give him that. But he's either going to take over the world or the whole thing will come crashing down, there's no middle ground for him because he can't stay still.

Anyway, SG will attract the fans who want off that crazy merry-go-round. But I don't think they'll have much of an affect on H!P. We should think of them of allies of a sort.

Not at them. But the fact that Morning Musume。 can't catch a break for no. 1's.

Feathers in a cap are nice, but as far as the bottom line goes, it's better for their sales to be #3 in a fast week than #1 in a slow week. I can't really think of them as not able to catch a break when the last time they were selling this well was back in 2004. :)

^True -- good sales are good sales, no matter what the chart rankings are. Besides, there are plenty of really good groups who would be happy to be able to crawl up into the lower end of the top 20 (or the top 50, or just make the charts at all). if you're #3, or 5 or even 10 or whatever, you really do have it made by any non-wota standard. XD

I've been wondering about AKB-exhaustion. I know it's kind of common around here, and my own limit is about two faces/voices and three songs (and between Takamina, "Bird," "River," and "Beginner," the quota's about 80% filled XD ), but I haven't been sure how that's working out with the general Japanese audience or with AKB wota.

General audiences everywhere seem to burn out pretty quickly on most acts when overexposure reaches a certain point, so I'd expect some AKB burnout to be setting in with them. Truly hardcore wota, of course, stop at nothing short of a direct asteroid impact (and maybe not even then), but I wonder about the burnout level of some of the not-so-hardcore AKB wota -- the ones who drifted over to AKB from H!P when Morning Musume seemed to be in the doldrums, for example. it seems like some of them might be among the first to go over to SG -- or to drift back to the New, Improved, Color-Coded MoMusu...
