This. I see many people equate one member generations with miracles/aces/saviors. But I think this generation showed that even a one member generation can just be a good addition, a future lead vocalist, and a potential front girl. I don't think Tsunku and UFA expect her to be more than that. I also don't think being the lone winner of the audition means anything more than just her who was able to make the grade.

I see that she's a good singer, and an ok dancer (it would be interesting how she matches up with Ayumi and Riho...would be happy even if she just held her own). Those are enough for me to be happy she was added.

Also, as many people here have already said, the fact that she's the same age as with most of the group will help a lot in not making her an "outsider" as other fans are worried she might be. The 9th and 10th gen have settled down with each other pretty quickly. I am confident they'll warm up to 11th gen just the same.

Sakura's a good choice -- if the 11th gen had to be a 1-nin gen, she's probably the best choice. And Starra's reasoning as to why it's 1-nin makes sense. I think that with the 7th and 8th gens, Tsunku, etc. were still spooked in the wake of the Unlucky 7, and only felt safe adding single, hand-picked members. But that's obviously not the case now, and it sounds like Tsunku already managed not to introduce her as a new ace, miracle, second coming, or whatever, which is a very good thing.

But still, there's something funny about the timing -- maybe it was just to get her into the upcoming tour, but I still wonder whether something happened behind the scenes (and it might not have had anything directly to do with Sakura or even the auditions) that pushed them into an early announcement.


And -- how soon before the 12th gen audition? A year? Or less?

As much as I like Sakura. I feel sort of underwhelmed that he went and only picked an Egg. Why have an audition if you're going to end up only picking from within the company? If you're going to do that, just stick with doing Egg Auditions and if you need a new Musume member, just pull from the eggs. Don't go and get the hopes up of poor girls who don't have a chance because they are being pitted against girls who have more experience within the company. It just feels wrong.

I think that's why I'm like happy about this, but at the same time I'm not. I've been like this all day.

I know they don't take shortcuts. They make big productions out of everything, but this isn't going to stop me from feeling like this is a shortcut generation.

I'm just going through the stages of shock. It'll pass, once I see Sakura in action. To be honest, I always wanted someone named Sakura in Morning Musume. Perhaps because I'm a Card Captor fan? xD

I get your point but an other way to see it is that some of these girls will become eggs and maybe future MMers or S/mileagers, C-uters whatever. They still have a chance.

also she'll do promotional activities with them and fanclub events? i mean yeah obviously they'll have a new single for the winter concert but she wont be stuck in training right? so we'll have to wait a while for the next mm single after this which is about next year. MM is going to be quiet as....

It wasn't a given that she was going to be added. She went through the auditions like the other girls (well, at least as much as the other Kenshuusei) and apparently made a better impression.

If Sakura initially auditioned to become a Kenshuusei because she wants more training so that she can have a better chance at a future MM audition, then that's a smart move on her part.
